Met Eireann's latest Ireland weather forecast as scorching air nears but could have nasty surprise

The continental air headed towards Ireland will see temperatures soar into the high twenties this weekend before hitting 32C on Monday.

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow weather warning for the entire country from Sunday to Tuesday with few areas exempt from the heat.

But thunderstorms could come with the baking weather with Wednesday looking like a possible day for heavy downpours in some areas.

Carlow Weather's Alan O'Reilly said some charts are showing "some very heavy rain with thunderstorms showing the uncertainty at present".

But before that potential turn, it will be a weekend to enjoy the sun right across the country.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "There will be a short spell of hot weather this weekend and early next week, with daytime temperatures widely reaching the mid to high twenties and possibly the low thirties. It will also be very warm by night, particularly on Monday night.

"Any mist and fog patches will clear tomorrow morning to leave a warm and mostly dry day with a good deal of hazy sunshine. A few showers are possible in the north and northwest in the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 20 to 26 degrees, warmest in the midlands, with light southerly or variable breezes.

"Very warm Sunday and dry with widespread hazy sunshine. Highest temperatures generally 24 to 29 degrees. South to southeast breezes will be light to moderate."
