Met Eireann have updated their orange weather warning to now include 15 counties as torrential rain is to hit overnight.
From 4am to 8am, there is a rain warning for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Wicklow, Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo and Waterford.
Another yellow warning will be in place for nine hours from 1am for the entire country, a Met Eireann forecaster said: "Heavy rain will move northwards across much of the country tonight, clearing from the north and northwest on Sunday morning.
"Some torrential downpours are expected in parts, resulting in surface flooding. There is also the potential for thunderstorm activity and lightning strikes."
The horrible conditions will clear somewhat on Sunday however with no further warnings at the moment.
The Met Eireann forecast adds: "Heavy rain with local thunder and lightning, along with strong southeast winds, will clear to the northwest tomorrow morning. Southeast winds will be mainly moderate to fresh, but will strengthen again in the southwest by afternoon.
"The afternoon and early evening will bring sunny spells and just isolated showers. Later on, however, a further band of heavy rain will push in from the southwest. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees."
