Met Eireann's freezing forecast as Dublin to shiver in -2C

A freezing couple of nights are in store as temperatures are set to drop dramatically.

Met Eireann has forecasted two nights of subzero temperatures with the mercury dropping to the lows of -2C for Dublin. Today will start off cloudy with some patchy drizzle and mist patches.

However, the light rain and drizzle will move southeastwards across the region in the late morning and sunny spells will develop. Temperatures will be around 8 or 9 degrees.

Tonight will be cold and dry with frost and icy patches. Temperatures will be around -1 to +2 degrees.

Tomorrow will be cool and dry with sunny spells and the highest temperatures of around 6 to 8 degrees. There is no further forecast for Dublin so here's what Met Eireann's national outlook says:

Thursday night

"Thursday night will be cold with clear spells, but with patches of mist and fog developing. Frost and icy patches will develop with lowest temperatures of 2 to -2 degrees and light, variable breezes.

Friday
"On Friday morning, frost, fog and ice will gradually clear and sunny spells will develop. Cloudier conditions will gradually extend eastwards through the afternoon and outbreaks of light rain and drizzle will develop in the northwest in the evening. Highest afternoon temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees with light southwesterly or variable breezes.

"On Friday night, light rain and drizzle will spread southeastwards across the country. Amounts will be small. Rain and drizzle will clear overnight with clear spells following. It will be cold with lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees and light northwest winds."
