Met Eireann's forecast is bad news for the next week but best period of year yet coming soon

Met Eireann has forecast some bad weather for next week but it is set to take a turn for the better very soon.

The hottest weather of year so far is set to arrive in mid-May with forecasters predicting two weeks of glorious conditions.

The national forecaster's latest long-range forecast shows high pressure is set to dominate from May 16 with above average temperatures on the way.

From Monday, May 16, a Met Eireann forecaster said: "High pressure looks sets to dominate with more settled conditions expected. This will cause rainfall amounts to be below average, and temperatures will be higher than normal for mid-May, winds will be light to moderate with variable cloud cover."

And from Monday, May 23: "Similar conditions can be expected with a signal for rainfall amounts to remain below average, and temperature to remain slightly above normal for late May."

However, before we reach the two weeks of sunshine, next week is set to be unsettled with rain and showers throughout the week.

Here is Met Eireann's weather forecast for the next week:

Monday, May 9

Breezy tomorrow with rain in the west and northwest spreading across the country during the morning and early afternoon, turning heavy at times. Rain will persist in the southeast but will clear from other areas by evening, followed by sunny spells and scattered showers. Some showers will be heavy, especially in the northwest later. Moderate to fresh southerly winds will be strong at times. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees.

Tuesday, May 10

Tuesday will be breezy with sunny spells and scattered blustery showers. During the evening, the showers will become isolated, and cloud will increase across the northwest. Highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees, mildest in the southeast, in a fresh and gusty southwesterly wind.

Wednesday, May 11

Some uncertainty, but at present it looks like rain will affect southern areas on Wednesday, with sunny spells and isolated showers further north. Highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees with light southwest to west winds becoming northwesterly.

Thursday, May 12

A cloudy day with well scattered outbreaks of light rain and light to moderate southwesterly breezes. Feeling cooler with highs of 11 to 13 degrees.

Friday, May 13 and the weekend

Continuing a little unsettled for Friday, but possibly settling down and becoming milder again for the weekend.
