Met Eireann's 4-day weather warning for Dublin as expert says record-breaking temperatures to hit

Record-breaking temperatures could scorch Dublin this week as Met Eireann has issued a weather warning.

The ARPEGE model shows temperatures rising to as high as 33 degrees on Saturday which could beat the all-time August record of 31.5 degrees from 1995, Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said. A Status Yellow warning for high temperature will be in place for Leinster and Munster from noon on Thursday until 6am on Sunday.

A Met Eireann forecaster warned: "Very warm or hot on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with maximum temperatures generally of 27 to 29 degrees. Warm at night with temperatures generally staying above 15 degrees.

"Daytime temperatures may not be as high in coastal areas due to sea breezes." Hot temperatures will lead to:

• Heat stress, especially for the more vulnerable of the population
• High Solar UV index
• Risk of water-related incidents

A weather advisory is also in place until Monday, August 15. Today will be dry, warm, and sunny with the highest temperatures of 25 to 26 degrees.

Dry and clear conditions will continue into the night. Temperatures will hit the lows of 10 to 13 degrees with no wind.

Another hot, dry, and sunny day is expected tomorrow with sea breezes in the afternoon. It'll be a warm day with the highest temperatures of 26 or 27 degrees.

While there is no further forecast for Dublin, here is what the national outlook says:

Thursday night

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "A warm night Thursday night with temperatures not falling below 10 to 15 degrees generally, staying above 16 or 17 degrees in places. Continuing dry and clear with some coastal fog forming along Connacht and west Ulster coasts. Light variable breezes.

Friday and Saturday

"Friday and Saturday will be hot and sunny with a low chance of isolated showers. Highest temperatures of 25 to 28 or 29 degrees in light variable breezes, hottest inland. Staying warm overnight with temperatures not falling below the mid to high teens.

Sunday

"Another hot day on Sunday with sunshine to start, there's an increased likelihood of showers, and they could be heavy. Temperatures 25 to 29 degrees with light easterly breezes."
