Met Eireann predicts date of temperature drop with 'rain, showers and frost' on the way

Met Eireann has predicted a date for the arrival of wintery conditions as mild temperatures are due to be replaced by frosty and fog-filled mornings.

In the latest monthly forecast, November looks to feature a dominant low-pressure system bringing “rain or showers and, and colder sources of air.”

From Friday, October 28 to Thursday, November 3, low-pressure areas are expected between Ireland and Iceland and in the near Atlantic, which will "steer up weather fronts or thundery troughs” at times over Ireland.

This will cause things to be wetter than normal during this period with the highest rainfall totals in the southern parts.

However, it will also be milder than normal especially at first - though temperatures will gradually edge down closer to average.

From Friday, November 4 to Thursday, November 10, this low pressure will linger and even begin to dominate with “unstable air bringing rain or showers and, with colder sources of air,” with temperatures staying around average for the time of year.

Some nights will also be frosty and it looks like conditions will be slightly wetter than average overall - with less rain in southern parts than for the previous week.

From Friday, November 11 to Thursday, November 17, there will be a brief change to more settled conditions with drier-than-normal weather predicted.

Temperatures will be close to the average for mid-November with “frost and fog forming at times overnight and in the mornings.”

From Friday, November 18 to Thursday, November 24, confidence is low at this stage but “it is currently predicted to be generally drier and slightly warmer than normal with high pressure dominating overall.”

However, at this time of year, extremes of wind and rain are still possible alongside fog and frost forming some nights too.
