Met Eireann has predicted a chilly week ahead as a weather expert has warned of a "prolonged" cold period.
The week will be largely dry with showers here and there. Night time temperatures will drop to lows of 2 degrees.
Weather Expert Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather warned the risk of a "prolonged cool" period. He also advised the public to check their heating supplies.
He said: "Weather models showing the cool and settled weather is nailed on now for end of this week. Just how cold it gets next week is still uncertain but the risk of a prolonged cool are slowly increasing. Good time to check the heating supplies but also good to see a break from the rain"
Met Eireann's forecast for the week reads:
Tuesday
On Tuesday morning, any overnight mist and fog will tend to clear. Otherwise, it will be generally dry with hazy sunshine and just light southeast or variable breezes. Cool with highest temperatures of 6 degrees in the north to 10 degrees in the south. Turning cloudier in the far southwest with some rain developing by evening.
TONIGHT
Scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle will move in across the country tonight, though parts of the east will stay dry. Mist and fog patches too, in mostly moderate southeast winds. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees, coldest in the northeast and east with some possible frost.
Wednesday
Scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle will persist into Wednesday day, along with some mist and fog patches. Drying up from the south later though with some sunny spells. Highest temperatures 8 to 11 degrees, in mostly moderate southeast winds.
Wednesday Night
Overall dry under broken cloud, though patches of mist and drizzle will occur too, in particular early on. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in moderate southerly winds.
Thursday and Friday
Most areas will be fully dry with sunny spells, however a few showers will feed into east and southeast counties. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees generally, in light to moderate southeast breezes.
Weekend
Some uncertainty around this weekend's weather. However, current indications suggest there will be cloudy outbreaks of rain and drizzle, especially during Saturday. Southerly winds will gradually back easterly, and will no more than moderate in strength. Becoming colder with highest temperatures of just 4 to 7 degrees.
