Met Eireann has pinpointed the arrival of torrential and widespread downpours this weekend as it warns of thunderstorms and flooding in some areas.
Driving conditions are also expected to be dangerous in some parts of the country both during and after showers and so drivers are advised to be cautious.
It’ll be a wet and breezy start in the east today, with sunnier weather in the west which will extend quickly to all areas.

There will be many isolated showers in the west in the afternoon which will become more frequent later in the day.
A spell of heavy, thundery, rain is expected to move eastwards over the country overnight, leading to flooding in places.
There'll be sunny spells with scattered heavy showers tomorrow, Sunday, which may merge into longer spells of rain at times, especially in the west and northwest.
Some of the showers will be thundery with spot flooding possible and cloud will build from the southwest towards the evening with persistent rain there later.
Rain will become widespread Sunday night with further heavy falls possible with lowest temperatures of 8 or 9 degrees in fresh to strong southerly winds.
This rain will continue into next week, turning heavier on Monday afternoon and in the evening with the chance of embedded thunderstorms.
The showers will clear eastwards Monday night and will be followed by blustery showers from the west.
As for the rest of the week, the Irish forecaster says “Current indications suggest the further outlook will continue unsettled with further spells of rain and showers, breezy at times too with the strong southerly winds bringing higher than usual temperatures for the time of year.”
