Met Eireann issues Yellow weather warning for Dublin with risk of 'disruption' in brutal forecast

Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning for the Dublin area as heavy rainfall is expected across the county tomorrow.

The Yellow weather warning also applies to counties such as Carlow and Kilkenny. Meanwhile, an Orange weather warning is in place for counties including Cork and Kerry.

Met Eireann says that the heavy rainfall will begin around 10pm tonight and that there is a high possibility of surface flooding in Dublin. The heavy downpours are expected to cease by Wednesday night.

The forecast reads: “Heavy rain on Tuesday night and Wednesday, with the possibility of thundery downpours, will lead to localised flooding and some disruption.”

The Road Safety Authority is asking road users to exercise caution while driving from tonight onwards. Drivers are encouraged to allow for greater braking distance between themselves and other vehicles, particularly on duel carriageways and motorways. The RSA also recommends taking greater care when driving behind goods vehicles, as they produce a greater amount of spray that could impact visibility.

The week’s forecast predicted wet and windy conditions from Monday onwards, although dry spells are anticipated for the weekend. The temperatures across the next few days range from 9℃ to 16℃.

A marine warning is also in place off the Irish coasts until Thursday evening. This is because south easterly winds are expected to reach forces of 6 or higher over the next few days.

The Dublin forecast for tonight and Wednesday are as follows.

Tuesday night

Rain will develop overnight, heavy at times possibly leading to surface flooding. Lowest temperatures of 10 or 11 degrees, with moderate to fresh easterly winds.

Wednesday

Tomorrow, Wednesday, will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain at times, especially during the morning when it will be heavy and possibly thundery. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees. Easterly winds will be fresh to strong and gusty.
