Met Eireann issues yellow warning as heavy rain and thundery downpours predicted for entire country

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow rain warning for the entire country tonight and tomorrow, with heavy, thundery "pulses of rain" expected.

The alert is valid from 3am on Monday morning, until 8pm tomorrow night for the entire country including Dublin. The national forecaster has warned that there is a risk of flooding in some areas.

According to Met Eireann, tonight there will be some clear spells early in the night with a touch of grass frost possible as temperatures dip to between 2 and 5 degrees. Wet and breezy weather will push up from the southwest overnight as southeasterly winds freshen.

It comes as a Polar front, which is the meeting point of airmasses separating the Arctic and northern Europe, is continuing to plunge southwards across Ireland bring cold Artic air for many parts of the country.

Meanwhile, Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather has warned that "unsettled" conditions will continue into the week ahead with wet, windy weather on the way. He tweeted on Saturday night: "An unsettled week ahead with some fast and deep lows developing. No direct hits showing at present but still a risk of wet and windy weather at times."
