Met Eireann issues weather advisory for entire country for 'heavy rain and flooding' over weekend

Met Eireann has issued a "weather advisory" for the entire country including Dublin this weekend, with heavy rain and a risk of flooding for some areas.

The weather alert is currently in effect until 11pm on Friday. Met Eireann forecasters have warned that "further rainfall this weekend and next week will cause localised flooding due to waterlogged soils and high river levels". For the rest of this evening, in Dublin it will become cloudy with rain arriving from the southwest later in the night.

Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees. Southerly winds will increase moderate to fresh and gusty.

Meanwhile, forecasters have predicted that Saturday will be the wettest day with a risk of spot flooding in some places. Day time temperatures over the weekend are set to range from 10 degrees to 15 degrees over the next seven days.

Saturday will see a "wet and and cloudy" start, although the rain is expected to clear eastwards through the morning and will be followed by good sunny spells with scattered showers arriving during the evening. Highest temperatures of 13 or 14 degrees, staying breezy with moderate to fresh and gusty southwesterly winds.

Saturday night will see clear spells with scattered showers continuing overnight, heaviest and most frequent over Atlantic coastal counties with the chance of spot flooding. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds.

Scattered showers are on the way for Sunday, and some of these showers will be thundery with spot flooding possible. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in fresh and gusty south to southwest winds.

On Sunday night, becoming cloudy with outbreaks of rain extending across the country with some heavy falls possible. Lowest temperatures ranging from 7 to 10 degrees.
