Met Eireann issue eight-hour weather warning for four counties as 'severe' conditions to batter Ireland

Met Eireann have issued a status yellow wind warning for four counties as "severe" conditions are expected to cause trouble.

Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo will see strong winds sweep across them on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The gusts will be so strong that the national forecaster have issued an eight-hour wind warning.

It reads: "Very strong southwest winds veering northwest are expected on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Winds will be strongest at the coast with some severe gusts at times too, which may make driving conditions difficult."

On top of that, there's another status yellow alert for gales around the Irish coastline.

It reads: "Westerly winds veering northwesterly will reach gale force 8 or strong gale force 9 at times on Irish coastal waters from Valentia to Bloody Foreland to Howth Head and on the Irish Sea North of Anglesey."

That will last from midday tomorrow through to 7am on Thursday.

Ireland will turn "much colder" in April, with even Met Éireann warning of some 'unstable' periods over the next few weeks.

After a glorious spell in March which saw temperatures hit the high teens, we've seen a dull start to April, with rain, hail and even snow falling in some parts of the country.

But it doesn't seem like that's going to change any time soon, with the national forecaster noting that '"wintry showers" are possible over the weekend as temperatures drop further.
