Met Eireann have issued a status yellow wind warning for Donegal as severe winds look set to blast the county.
The alert will take effect on Sunday at 2pm and remain in place until 3am on Monday.
The national forecaster warns: "Southwest winds veering northwest will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h with gusts of up to 100km/h.
"Strong winds combined with high seas may lead to wave overtopping in coastal areas."
It comes as Storm Malik continues its trajectory eastwards as it "races" away from Ireland and towards Scandinavia.
Met Eireann said: "With Storm Malik racing away towards Scandinavia, this afternoon looks fairly dry and bright with some sun behind cloud, although it will be a little cooler the winds should gradually ease.
"Afternoon highs: 8 to 11 degrees, but turning cool and a little frosty this evening."
Looking towards the next three days, a forecaster added: "Dry and cold early tonight with clear spells. It will become cloudier overnight with some patchy drizzle developing in western counties by morning. Lowest temperatures of -1 to 3C with a frost developing and some ice patches. Winds will be light, but will strengthen on western coasts by morning.
"Mostly dry to start on Sunday with some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle, mainly in the west. Becoming windy by the afternoon with a band of heavier rain pushing in from the northwest, extending to all areas by early evening.
"A clearance to scattered showers will then follow. Westerly winds will increase fresh to strong and gusty, reaching near gale force in northern and northwestern coastal areas. Highs of 8 to 11C.
"Dry in most areas Sunday night with clear spells, but a scattering of showers will persist, mostly over Ulster where a few may turn wintry over high ground. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6C with fresh to strong and gusty northwest winds.
"Monday will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain spreading from the northwest in the afternoon and evening while highest temperatures will range from 8 to 10C in moderate westerly winds.
"A cloudy night [on Monday] with light rain persisting in west Ulster and just isolated outbreaks of rain elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9C as westerly winds increase fresh and blustery."
