Met Eireann Ireland weather forecast freezing conditions before mercury to jump to 15C with glorious sunshine

Ireland is set to see a few freezing nights but there's some good news on the horizon.

Temperatures are set to jump to a mild 15C with plenty of dry weather and lovely sunshine this week.

Today will start off cold, bright, and frosty but any rain in the southeast will clear.

Spells of sunshine are expected during the day with well-scattered showers, mainly affecting the west and northwest.

Temperatures will range between 8 and 11 degrees.

Tonight will see any showers clear early leaving dry and clear conditions for a time.

But cloud is expected to move in from the Atlantic overnight and showery rain will develop across the western half of the country.

Temperatures will be between 0 and 4 degrees.

Tomorrow, St Patrick's Day, will start off cloudy with showery rain moving eastwards but it will become drier and brighter through the afternoon with showers becoming isolated.

It will be breezy but it will ease by evening with temperatures of 8 to 13 degrees.

Here is the forecast for the rest of the week:

Tomorrow night

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Thursday night will be dry and skies will become clearer overnight. Winds will be light and variable, becoming southeasterly later. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +3 degrees, with frost in parts of the northeast and east.

Friday

"Friday will be dry with long sunny spells, and mild too with temperatures reaching 10 to 15 degrees. There will be a light to moderate south to southeast breeze.

Friday night

"Dry and clear with a light to moderate southeasterly breeze. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees.

Saturday

"Saturday looks set to be dry and mild with sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees in a light to moderate southeasterly breeze."
