Met Éireann has provided a monthly forecast for largely dry weather throughout September with the sun likely to shine on children returning to school in the coming weeks.
Irish people can hold out hope for an Indian Summer with Met Éireann predicting plenty of high pressure and "above average" temperatures as September begins next week.
There will be slightly mixed bag between now and then as August ends with average temperatures and a large helping of unseasonal showers.

In its latest forecast, Met Éireann says: "After a mostly sunny start to Wednesday morning, moderate southwesterly winds will freshen, feeding in some scattered blustery showers into the west and north for the afternoon. Much of the south and east will stay dry with a mix of cloud and sunshine. Highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees, best values away from the west and northwest."
They describe the weather for the rest of this week as "changeable" with "a good deal of cloud and some showers or longer spells of rain."
After a dry and bright start on Thursday, forecasters predict the arrival of cloud and outbreaks of rain spreading from the west through the morning and afternoon, turning heavier in the evening.
"The east and southeast will be warmest, and will likely stay dry until later in the evening. Highs of 15 to 20 degrees in mostly moderate southwesterly breezes, winds freshening in the west.
"Outbreaks of rain will gradually clear eastwards early in the night, becoming lighter and patchier as they do so. Turning mostly dry with clear spells later. Lows of 9 to 13 degrees in light westerly breezes."
It's not looking better for Friday as it will be "mostly cloudy with a scattering of showers and just occasional sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds."
There is even more uncertainty for Saturday but it may be a reprieve with Met Éireann saying current indications suggest "the east will stay dry for most of the day with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Cloudier in the west with outbreaks of rain. Highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees in light or moderate southerly winds."
In it's monthly forecast, Met Éireann predicts high pressure over Ireland for the week between August 26 and September 1. They said: "High pressure looks set to dominate the weather picture next week with temperatures slightly above normal for the time of year and below average rainfall amounts."
For the following week until September 8, low pressure may take over.
"Although the signal is for higher than typical temperatures, particularly in the south and east of the country, low pressure will start to make it’s presence known with an increased risk of shower activity generating some heavy falls, also in the southeast, bringing rainfall amounts in this region above the average for the time of year," they said.
From September 8 until the end of the month, forecasters are holding out hope for "mainly dry weather."
Met Éireann says "higher than typical temperatures lead us in to the third week of the month with mainly dry conditions and light winds."
"The long range signal remains for higher than typical temperatures and mainly dry weather in to the end of the month," Met Éireann concluded in a hopeful forecast.
