Met Eireann give verdict on whether snow will hit Ireland before Christmas

Met Eireann have warned of plenty of heavy rain and strong winds over the next four weeks.

While their forecast for Christmas week has not been issued yet, if you were hoping for snow during the first half of December you will likely be disappointed. Despite frosty conditions hitting Ireland recently, Met Eireann hasn't predicted any snow for the coming weeks.

Conditions will change from week to week, with heavy rain predicted to hit Ireland until early December. However, as we inch closer to Christmas, drier than average weather will take over.

Here's Met Eireann's forecast for the coming weeks:

Week 1 (Monday 21 November to Sunday 27 November)

"Low pressure to the west will dominate our weather through Week 1 with a predominately southwesterly airflow. Rainfall will be above average over much of the country, especially in the west and southwest. Temperatures will be slightly above normal, especially in the south and southeast. Potential hazards include strong wind and heavy rain at times. Despite the warmer than average temperatures, frosts are still possible at night.

Week 2 (Monday 28 November to Sunday 04 December)

"Week 2 is indicated to be similar to Week 1, dominated by low pressure, likely moving slightly further west from Ireland as high pressure over Europe builds. Temperatures will likely remain above normal, perhaps slightly more than in Week 1. Rainfall will also continue to be above normal. Strong winds and heavy spells of rain are possible hazards, along with frosts at night.

Week 3 (Monday 05 December to Sunday 11 December)

"More settled conditions are signalled for Week 3 with high pressure likely to dominate our weather. Drier than average conditions are expected over much of the country and temperatures will likely be around normal for the time of year. Less potential hazards are hinted at but frosts and fog could be a feature during the night with a slacker airflow.

Week 4 (Monday 12 December to Sunday 18 December)

"For Week 4, there’s a weaker signal than in Week 3 for high pressure to dominate our weather. Temperatures will likely continue around normal with drier than average conditions for most of the country."
