Met Eireann forecasts weekend scorcher for Dublin as expert says mercury could hit 33C

Slap on some sunscreen as torrid weather will beat down on Dublin this weekend.

A Status Yellow High Temperature warning will be in place for Ireland until 6am on Sunday. A Met Eireann forecaster warned: "Very warm or hot on Friday and Saturday with maximum temperatures generally of 27 to 29 degrees and locally higher.

"Warm overnight with minimum temperatures generally around 15 degrees. Temperatures may not be as high in coastal areas due to sea breezes, particularly in the northwest."

The mercury could hit a sweltering 33 degrees on Saturday which could beat the all-time August record of 31.5degrees from 1995. Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said: "Latest temperature forecast for tomorrow and Saturday show increased chance of the all-time August record of 31.5c being beaten with 32c on Met Eireann HARMONIE and 33c on UKV model. Either way it is going to be HOT!"

Today will hot, dry, and sunny with the highest temperatures of 25 to 27 degrees in light winds. It will be the warmest inland and the coast will be slightly cooler thanks to a sea breeze.

Tonight will be warm with temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees. It will be dry and largely clear with isolated mist and fog patches developing in a light breeze.

Tomorrow will be hot and dry with the highest temperatures of 25 to 27 degrees but a sea breeze will keep it cooler near the coast. While there is no further forecast for Dublin, here is what the national outlook says:

Saturday night

"A warm night with temperatures not dropping below 15 to 18 degrees. Staying dry and clear with light winds. Some mist and fog patches will develop.

Sunday

"A dry and sunny start to Sunday but cloud will bubble up in some areas through the day, bringing heavy showers and the potential for some thundery downpours. Remaining very warm or hot with highest temperatures of 24 degrees in the northwest to 28 or 29 degrees in the southeast in light winds.

Sunday night

"Warm and humid with scattered showers, possibly remaining heavy in some places. Temperatures generally between 13 and 17 degrees in light winds."
