Met Eireann forecasts sunny spells for Dublin before 'heavy downpours' to hit

Time to break out the brollies as Met Eireann has confirmed the return of unsettled weather.

Miserable conditions are set to hit over the August Bank Holiday weekend with the national forecaster warning of "heavy downpours". Today will be mostly dry with a chance of an isolated shower.

There will be occasional hazy sunshine in the morning but it will become cloudier in the afternoon and evening. The highest temperatures will be around 16 or 17 degrees.

Tonight will see a mix of cloud and clear spells with the lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees. A few short-lived mist patches may form around dawn.

Tomorrow will be a mixed bag with cloud and sunny spells along with some scattered showers. It will become drier and sunnier towards the evening. Daytime temperatures will be around 18 or 19 degrees.

While there is no further forecast for Dublin, this is what the national outlook says:

Thursday night

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Thursday night will be dry with clear spells and a few shallow patches of mist and fog forming around dawn. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in a light southeasterly or variable breeze.

Friday

"Mostly dry with sunny spells on Friday morning, however cloud will build in the west and patches of light rain or drizzle will develop near the coast where it will become breezy. Cloud will increase across the rest of the country during the afternoon and evening bringing outbreaks of rain or drizzle.

"Some heavy bursts are possible in the west and north where the rain may be persistent for a time. Highest temperatures of 17 to 23 degrees in a light to moderate south to southwest wind, fresh at times near the west and northwest coast.

Friday night

"The rain will ease off and become patchy on Friday night. It will be milder than recent nights with temperatures staying above 14 to 16 degrees, in a light to moderate westerly wind.

Saturday

"Saturday will be quite cloudy and humid with scattered showers, although some sunny breaks are likely later in the afternoon. During the evening, some rain will develop in parts of the west. Highest temperatures ranging between 17 degrees in the northwest and 23 degrees in the southeast, in a light southwest to west or variable breeze.

Saturday night

"Outbreaks of rain are likely to develop more widely on Saturday night with the potential for some heavy downpours in places. After a wet start to Sunday it will gradually turn drier and brighter during the day with some showers."
