Met Eireann forecasts showers and drizzle for parts of country before major U-turn

After a stellar weekend weatherwise, where temperatures soared in parts of Ireland, people are looking forward to summer finally settling in.

Overall, the week will a mix of be dry patches and scattered light showers and sunny spells, with temperatures hitting between 12C and 18C.

Even though the west is set to experience cloudier conditions and some rain later in the week., next weekend is expected to be generally dry and bright with warm temperatures. Here is Met Eireann's forecast for the week ahead:

Monday

Most areas will start out dry and bright on Monday with isolated showers.

Cloud amounts will increase by the afternoon, though showers will remain fairly isolated. It'll brighten up later with long spells of evening sunshine, with highest temperatures of 12C to 15C in light to moderate northwest winds.

It will be a mostly dry and clear night, with the chance of isolated light showers. Lowest temperatures of 4C to 8C in light northwesterly winds.

Tuesday

A largely dry day with sunny spells and just well-scattered light showers, mainly in the north.

It will also feel warmer with the highest temperatures of 13C to 17C in light to moderate northwest winds.

Dry overnight with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 8C, with patches of mist and fog developing as winds fall light and variable.

Wednesday

Another largely dry day, with sunshine for many and just isolated light showers. Highest temperatures of 14C to 18C in light southwesterly or variable winds.

Thursday

Cloudier conditions in the west on Thursday with a few showers.

Dry with sunny spells further east. Patchy rain and drizzle will develop along Atlantic coasts in the evening. Highest temperatures of 15C to 18C, the warmest in the east.

Light to moderate southwesterly winds, freshening along northwestern coasts in the afternoon.

Friday

Cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle at first on Friday, giving way to sunny spells and scattered light showers in the afternoon. Top temperatures of 13C to 17C.

Further outlook

Current indications suggest high pressure will remain the dominant influence over our weather next weekend. Staying generally dry and bright with temperatures in the high teens or low twenties.
