Met Eireann’s forecast shows the arrival of grim conditions for the west of Ireland while one weather expert says Eastern areas are likely to remain dry.
The turbocharged jet stream hurtling past Ireland is stirring up storms in the Atlantic, with the worst of effects being felt in the western coastal counties.
Alan O’Reilly, from the popular Twitter account, 'Carlow Weather,' warned that it will be “showery and breezy the next few days but also some good sunny spells.
“Most of the rainfall will be in the West with Eastern areas not likely to see much but showers will be hit and miss.”
Meanwhile, Met Eireann says it will be breezy early this morning with outbreaks of rain - which will clear eastwards by mid-morning.
It’ll be bright or sunny spells for the rest of the day into the afternoon with just well-scattered showers following from the west.
Towards the evening time, patchy rain will develop in the southwest, with highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in fresh southerly winds.
Thursday morning will start off mostly cloudy with patchy rain or drizzle in places, but this will gradually clear and brighten up.
Showers will develop in the west by early afternoon and will spread eastwards across the country with highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees with light to moderate southerly breezes.
Rain is expected to clear northeastwards later on Thursday - allowing sunny spells to develop widely. However, as the evening approaches, showers will move into Atlantic coastal counties and it will turn rather blustery.
It will be generally mild with highest temperatures reaching 17 degrees in some areas. Showers will push eastwards across the country for a time on Thursday night, but the showers will become mainly confined to Atlantic coastal counties.
Friday is expected to be a fresh and bright day with sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in fresh westerly winds.
It looks likely that it will be dry early on Friday night, but will turn wet and windy overnight as outbreaks of rain move in from the Atlantic.
As for the weekend, Met Eireann says: “Early indications suggest Saturday will be a rather windy day with rain clearing eastwards in the morning.
“Bright spells and widespread showers will follow from the west as the rain clears. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees.
“A good deal of uncertainty in the forecast for Sunday, but it is likely to remain unsettled with rain or showers at times.”
