Met Eireann forecasts freezing weekend as Dublin to shiver in subzero temperatures

Pile on a few more blankets as Met Eireann has forecasted plummeting temperatures this weekend.

The mercury will plunge to subzero bringing frosty nights and freezing conditions. Thankfully, high pressure will dominate over the coming days so Ireland will bask in sunshine and dry conditions.

Today will be cold and dry, and will start off with sunny spells. Sunny and dry spells will continue throughout the day with the highest temperatures of 6 or 7 degrees.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, limiting the chance of frost. The lowest temperatures will be from 0 to +3 degrees.

Tomorrow will be mostly dry with varying amounts of cloud and top temperatures of around 5 to 8 degrees. There is no further forecast for Dublin but here is what Met Eireann's national outlook says:

Sunday night

"A chilly night on Sunday night with varying cloud-cover. Lowest temperatures of 0 to +4 degrees in a moderate easterly breeze.

Monday

"It looks set to become mostly cloudy on Monday with the chance of a few light showers in Leinster. Maximum afternoon temperatures ranging from 6 to 9 degrees in light to moderate east or southeast breezes.

Monday night

"Cloud will break up in some areas on Monday night allowing a frost to form as temperatures fall back to between -1 and +3 degrees in light east or variable winds.

Tuesday

"Little change is expected on Tuesday with mostly dry conditions, apart from the odd light shower with variable amounts of cloud. Afternoon temperatures around average for late February with highs of 6 to 9 degrees. Light northeasterly breezes.

Tuesday night

"Mostly dry on Tuesday night with some clear spells, and a possibility of some showers in eastern coastal areas. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees with some frost possible. Light northeasterly breezes."
