Met Eireann has forecast a drop in temperatures over the coming hours as ‘frosty’ conditions arrive to give us a first glimpse of the winter chill to come.
The weather is due to remain relatively settled over the coming days according to updated predictions, and only some areas will be subjected to rain and strong winds.
Today, Wednesday will be a cool but brighter day with sunny spells and scattered showers. It will be rather blustery at times in areas where showers are forecast, so it will feel quite chilly for the time of year with highest temperatures of just 11 to 14 degrees generally.

Showers will become more isolated through the late afternoon but will mostly die out away from western coasts by evening.
Tonight will be mostly dry with long clear spells and just the chance of a few isolated showers along western Atlantic coasts. It will be quite cool overnight with lowest temperatures plummeting down to 3 degrees in some areas - or even lower locally.
“Some air frost can't be ruled out, while some patches of mist and fog are possible also as winds fall light and variable,” experts at Met Eireann warn.
Thursday will be a dry and fairly sunny day in most areas although the chance of isolated showers will continue through the morning in the west.
It will be a complete washout on Friday with persistent and occasionally heavy rain across the country while south to southwest winds will continue fresh to strong and gusty at times - with gales along the Atlantic coast.
However, clearer conditions with scattered showers will follow from the northwest during the afternoon as west-to northwest winds ease slightly.
There will be some sunny spells and fairly widespread showers on Saturday morning - but some will turn heavy and thundery at times.
Showers will begin to retreat to near western coasts in the afternoon with more prolonged sunny spells developing elsewhere.
Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees are expected, so it will be feeling cooler as moderate westerly breezes increase fresh and blustery through the afternoon.
Some sunny spells are expected on Sunday morning which will give way to cloud bubbling up through the day with some light showers about. There will be even better sunny spells developing later in the afternoon as moderate westerly winds ease.
As for next week, right now the Irish forecaster predicts: “Milder” conditions, “but remaining unsettled through the early days of next week although there is a chance more settled conditions will develop later in the week.”
