Met Eireann has forecast a two-week weather surprise with conditions set to take a turn for the better as high pressure takes hold, with Dublin set to bask in sunny spells and drier weather from Thursday.
Met Ereann forecaster Emer Flood told the Irish Mirror: “The hope is that BBQ weather is on the way for most areas next weekend but we’ll have to see as the week progresses how warm it’s actually going to get.”
The weather swing comes thanks to an area of high pressure that’s expected to dominate for the next two weeks. During the summer high pressure trends to bring fine, warm weather that can lead to long warm sunny days and prolonged dry spells.
Today Sunday will see a a mix of cloud and sunny intervals today with the best of the sunshine expected this morning. It will be largely dry but a few showers will develop during the day, highest temperatures of 17 to 19 degrees in a moderate westerly breeze.
It will be cloudy overnight with a few patches of rain or drizzle spreading from the west. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in moderate or fresh westerly winds.
Meanwhile, Met Eireann forecasters say that there is currently a "large area of high pressure" positioned over the Azores, which will start to building toward Ireland as the week progresses.
Forecaster Emer Flood explained: “Unfortunately, there will still be some weak fronts skirting around the north of the high, bringing some light rain or drizzle at times particularly towards the first half of the week, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. But from Thursday onwards, we will really start to see an improvement in conditions.”
Ms Flood said that temperatures will be creeping up day-on-day from Tuesday, reaching up to 21C on Wednesday, with the hot weather expected to peak next weekend at possibly 23C.
For the week of July 1 to July 7, Met Eireann said: “Over the next week a ridge of high pressure will build in from the west, however in the northwesterly airflow it will remain cooler than average over much of Connacht and west Ulster, with average temperatures elsewhere."
