Ireland is in for a continuation of today's washout weather as thunder and lightning hit some counties over the coming days and the risk of flooding rises.
There will be further showers overnight tonight, and some are due to be heavy with possible spot flooding alongside lowest temperatures of 12 degrees in light to moderate easterly winds.
Showers will continue into Wednesday morning and will be widespread across the country tomorrow. Many bouts of rain will be heavy with localised thundery downpours possibly leading to spot flooding in more coastal areas, however, highest temperatures will his 20 degrees in moderate easterly winds.
The status yellow rain warning will also remain in place until 7:00 am on Wednesday as many should expect “rainfall accumulations from heavy showers or longer spells of rain today and overnight with isolated thunderstorms and spot flooding.”

The general outlook for the week, according to Met Eireann is that it will be “staying rather unsettled with rain or showers on most days along with some sunny spells.”
On Wednesday night, there will be further showers or longer spells of rain in Munster, Leinster and east Ulster. It will become mainly dry further to the west and north but Llowest temperatures will drop to 12 or 13 degrees with light northerly breezes.
On Thursday there'll be bright or sunny spells, but as showers hit eastern areas at first, they will then spread to all areas. Many of these downpours will be heavy with a possibility of thunder.
Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees are expected with light to moderate northerly breezes. It’ll be mostly dry overnight with clear spells, but areas of mist and fog will form as winds fall light and temperatures will drop to 10 degrees in some areas.
Friday will be a bright day with sunny spells and some showers, but they won’t be as heavy or as frequent as previous days. Highest temperatures will range from 18 to 21 degrees in light northwest breezes.
Saturday will be mainly dry with good sunny spells and highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees with light breezes.
As for farther afield, “Current indications suggest that Sunday will start off dry, but that rain will spread from the southwest and may be heavy.”
