It’s been an unsettled and unpredictable summer so far, but Ireland’s weather is finally due to take a turn for the better.
Met Eireann says temperatures are due to rise from Wednesday and could reach the low to mid-20s by the end of the week.
The warm weather is due to come with dry and sunny conditions as high pressure builds over Ireland.

The U-turn comes thanks to a weather phenomenon called the Azores High, which is poised to engulf Ireland later this week.
Met Eireann says the Azores High - which can bring a prolonged period of hot, summer weather - is building from the south and will start to move across the country from Wednesday.
Explaining what it is, Met Eireann meteorologist Paul Downes told Virgin Media News: “The Azores High is in the mid-Atlantic, usually south of the Azores islands. It’s a semi-permanent high pressure system there and you tend to see it throughout the summer. It tends to expand and contract with time, but as it expands the jet stream which travels north of it is pushed further north, keeping those major weather systems away from us and giving us some settled conditions.”
The weather is due to begin improving from Wednesday and continue into next week.
In its outlook for this week, the national forecaster said: “High pressure continuing to build slowly over Ireland. A good deal of cloud through much of the working week with small amounts of precipitation, mainly in the north and west.
“Becoming warmer towards the end of the week with temperatures reaching the low to mid-twenties."
Giving more details in its monthly forecast, it continued: “High pressure will dominate our weather this week giving drier than normal conditions across the country. A northwesterly airflow will dominate which will lead to the west and northwest coasts being the coolest areas this week. Temperatures will be average for those areas, elsewhere most places will experience slightly warmer than average weather. Temperatures will be around a degree above normal overall this week for the southeast.
“Whilst conditions will be drier than normal, some precipitation is still likely at times, especially along the west and northwest coasts.”
Looking ahead to next week, it Met Eireann said: “High pressure is expected to dominate our weather next week with largely dry and warm conditions
“Temperatures will continue to trend by up to a degree above normal for the time of year.”
