The weather for the upcoming week is set to be a mixed bag of conditions, with both sunshine and showers throughout, according to the weekly forecast.
On Sunday, Met Eireann issued a rare 150-minute weather warning, with thunder and lightning raging over nine counties for just two and half hours closing off the weekend with a washout for most counties.
The bank holiday Monday, however, is set to bring some sunny spells, with temperatures steadily increasing throughout the week and hitting 18C at its peak. It’s not all good news though, as throughout the week there will also be outbreaks of rain with “heavy thundery showers” moving into the weekend.
Here is Met Eireann’s forecast for the week ahead:
Monday
It is set to be generally dry for Monday with just a few light showers lingering early on. The morning will be cloudy for many areas, although it will brighten as the day goes on with decent sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 13C to 17C in light or moderate northwesterly breezes.
Monday night will be mostly dry with clear spells, some mist and fog will form as winds fall light variable or calm. It will be a chiller night with lows of 2C to 6C for the country's northern half, generally holding between 7C and 9C further south.
Tuesday
Hazy sunshine in the morning however clouds will increase from the southwest through the afternoon. It will be dry in most areas with just the chance of a few stray patches of drizzle near the western coasts later. Mild with highs of 14C to 18C, in mostly light south to southeast winds.
It will be mostly cloudy overnight into Tuesday night with some patchy outbreaks of light rain and drizzle in Munster and Connacht, with lowest temperatures of 7C to 10C in light to moderate southeast winds.
Wednesday
It is set to be quite dull on Wednesday with some patchy light rain or drizzle mostly in Connacht and Ulster. Temperatures drop back to between 11C to 15C, coolest along eastern coasts in moderate to occasionally fresh southeast winds.
Wednesday night will remain cloudy and most areas will have a dry night, there will however be a chance of some patchy rain or drizzle in the southwest with lowest temperatures of 6C to 9C in moderate southeast winds.
Thursday
A mostly cloudy day with southeasterly winds freshening as patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle spread from the south through the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 10C to 15C, mildest in Connacht.
Friday
Friday and the weekend look a little more unsettled with some heavy thundery showers or longer spells of rain, while temperatures will generally be near average for the time of year.
