Met Eireann forecast freeze to hit Ireland in days but great news for St Patrick's Day double bank holiday

Met Eireann’s recent grim forecast looks ready to set the tone for this weekend - but conditions are predicted to improve as the double bank holiday approaches.

There are status yellow wind and rain warnings in place for 19 counties spanning the weekend as grim conditions approach.

The first warning is in place for Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Munster, Galway due to “heavy rain will bring a risk of flooding and hazardous conditions.”

The alert is in place from 3:00 pm on Saturday until 9:00 am on Sunday.

The second is a status yellow wind warning for Cork, Waterford, Dublin, Louth, Meath, Wexford, Wicklow.

The Irish forecaster has warned of “strong southeast winds with some severe gusts of 90 to 110km/h expected, strongest in coastal areas.”

This warning is also in place from 3:00 pm on Saturday until 9:00 am on Sunday.

However, after a weekend of horrendous conditions, Monday will kick the week off with dry and bright conditions - though patchy light rain or drizzle will develop at times near southern coasts.

Tuesday will bring pleasant bright spells early in the day, but cloud will build in from the west with rain extending into west Ulster and Connacht through the afternoon.

It will however stay dry and bright in the southeast through daylight hours.

Much to the delight of those who will enjoy a four day weekend in line with the double bank holiday with the forecaster saying: “Wednesday looks like another quite wet day in the west but there is growing confidence that high pressure will bring, mild, dry and sunny conditions for St. Patrick's Day and the bank holiday, but the nights will be cold and frosty.”
