Mesut Ozil's former Arsenal teammate makes stunning claim to justify Mikel Arteta decision

Former Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal says Mesut Ozil 'had problems with everyone' during his time at the club.

Ozil was recently removed from Fenerbahce's squad indefinitely just a year after he found himself exiled from Arsenal's Premier League and Europa League squads.

A short statement published on Fenerbahce's social media said: "Our Football A Team players Mesut Özil and Ozan Tufan were excluded from the squad as per the decision taken. It is announced to the public."

The ex-Germany international found himself on the sidelines during his last couple of seasons at Arsenal, with Monreal now revealing that Ozil didn't see eye to eye with a number of key figures at the club.

“Ozil’s problem is that he had problems with everyone,” Monreal told Four Four Two.

“It ended badly with Wenger, he didn’t play the last few games with him, then Emery tried to bring him back and make him our leader.

“To begin with, he gave him a lot of confidence and Mesut played a lot, but the coach understood there were other teammates who were in better condition. Ozil was one of the best players in the team, one of the best paid, but they saw he wasn’t at the level required.

“As a person, he was good with everyone, but he also missed a lot of games through injury.”

Ozil was substituted at half-time in Fenerbahce's game against Konyaspor last Sunday, with the team losing 1-0 at that stage.

The Turkish side went on to win the game 2-1 and are currently 17 points adrift of runaway leaders Trabzonspor in the league.
