Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has offered his thoughts on England's World Cup quarter-final defeat to France and the performance of Bukayo Saka. The Gunners forward was instrumental in the Three Lions' dominating and attacking performance, but they ultimately came up short against the world champions.
Olivier Giroud's second half header secured France's spot in the semi-finals after Harry Kane had cancelled out Aurelien Tchouameni's opener. The England captain had a second opportunity to equalise from the penalty spot, but blazed his effort from 12 yards well over the target.
Gareth Southgate's side deserved better for their efforts with Saka particularly impressing on the right of England's attack terrorising both Theo Hernandez and Dayot Upamecano.

The 21-year-old was the most-fouled player in the game being illegally challenged on four separate occasions including for England's first penalty. Raheem Sterling was brought on in place of Saka with just over ten minutes to play, a decision which caused mass confusion for many England supporters including ex-Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp.
According to FotMob England had 57% of the possession and had double the amount of shots over the French, but Didier Deschamps' side made their opportunities count and despite many feeling England will have dominated the game, it will be France who face Morocco in the semi-final.
Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil was one of many to sympathise with England following their quarter-final exit while also offering a lofty prediction on Saka following his impressive display.
On Twitter, Ozil wrote: "You don't need to feel ashamed Team England. A strong performance against the current World Champion, good defending against Mbappe & Co., but France very effective as always. Great game from my brother @BukayoSaka87 - the future belongs to you."
