Merseyside's only Conservative MP has revealed he is thrilled after Liz Truss was confirmed as the new party leader earlier today.

The MP for South West Norfolk beat Rishi Sunak to the race for residency at 10 Downing Street, with Southport MP Damien Moore confirming his excitement after he backed the Foreign Secretary to take the helm. He said: "I'm thrilled that Liz Truss has been elected as Leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party, and as Prime Minister.

"Liz will formally take office tomorrow when she visits the HM The Queen at Balmoral, who will invite her to form a new Government.
