Police in Merseyside have been turning heads after testing out a new Tesla patrol car. Officers described the electric vehicle as "cool looking" after taking it for a spin.
But they have also raised some concerns about the vehicle on Twitter. The test comes as forces across the UK look to invest in more electric cars before the Government bans new diesel and petrol vehicles in 2030.
The Merseyside Police Roads Policing Unit (RPU) Twitter account shared images of the vehicle on the social network. The post read: "We currently have this cool looking Tesla on test. It’s certainly been a head turner so far."

However, the RPU officer also said: "How many top up charges do you think we will need in a shift? And the Chief Officer for Merseyside Police Special Constabulary, Dave Lyons, said that charging the vehicles can take around 20 hours.
Referring to the force's headquarters on Cazneau Street in Liverpool, he said: "The on-site chargers at Rose Hill are particularly slow. Would take 20 hours to charge from flat."
The vehicle received also received mixed response from members of the public on Twitter. User Chris M wrote: "Looked very smart when I saw it earlier!" But Twitter user Real.red4767 was less enthusiastic. They wrote: "Smart design but I wait to hear on the news about a police pursuit ending because the police car went flat."
