Merseyside Mediterranean restaurant serving the ‘best kebab I’ve ever had’

A Mediterranean restaurant in Wirral blew me away with its delicious food and relaxing atmosphere.

Figo’s Mediterranean Kitchen in West Kirby offers a variety of dishes for guests to enjoy at lunchtime, dinner or at home thanks to its takeaway service.

When we arrived on a Tuesday evening for a large family meal, we were warmly greeted by the friendly staff who welcomed us into the restaurant, which is exotically decorated with colourful glass lampshades, pictures and flowers.

The team was very accommodating with our request for space for a pram next to our table and a high chair, and all of the staff were lovely with the three young children in my party.

The drinks menu has a good selection of wines, gins and more that are reasonably priced, but it was the food menu which impressed us the most.

Figo’s has every Mediterranean dish you can think of, including kebabs, guvech and moussaka.

I decided to go for the halloumi kebab (£11.50) which came with chargrilled vegetables (shallots, peppers and courgettes), pitta bread, rice and a side salad.

Someone else in my group chose the chicken kebab (£12.50) which consisted of marinated diced chicken, chargrilled vegetables, pitta bread, rice and a yoghurt dip.

It’s safe to say the kebabs were the best we’d ever had. The chicken was moist and flavoursome thanks to the delicious marinade, and the halloumi was thick and tasty, and not rubbery, which has often been the case when I’ve had the cheese at restaurants in the past.

The chargrilled vegetables were perfectly cooked and weren’t greasy. The rice on both dishes was lovely and fluffy, and the pitta bread was soft and moreish.

The portions were huge, and even those the the group who have large appetites were feeling full after the main course.

Of course, it would have been rude to not take a peek at the dessert menu despite feeling satisfied. Sure enough, the vast choice of desserts was just as pleasing as the main course, so we couldn't resist ordering a sweet treat each.

Being a big dessert lover, I usually can decide straight away what to go for, however at Figo’s I was torn between three options.

In the end I settled for Baklava (£4.95) - three small warm pastries layered with pistachio and honey syrup. The pudding was served with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, and I was very pleased with my choice, as it was absolutely delicious.

The restaurant has three cheesecake flavours to choose from, much to the delight of my family. One of the party went for Golden Nugget Honeycomb cheesecake (£4.95), and it’s safe to say he enjoyed it, as he wolfed down the lot in seconds!

Figo’s Mediterranean Kitchen certainly impressed and is the ideal restaurant for a get together with friends or family. It’s definitely a must-visit if you’re a fan of Mediterranean food, and I can’t wait to return and enjoy some of the other dishes.

The restaurant is open seven days a week from 12pm to 10pm and is based at 64-66 Grange Rd, West Kirby, Wirral, CH48 4EG. You can book a table here.
