Merseyrail will return to a 15-minute service across most of its network from the start of next month.
From Monday, May 2, commuters will be able to catch a train every 15 minutes - a return to the pre-COVID timetable. In January Merseyrail announced it was reducing its service due to Omicron impacting staff availability. But, with restrictions removed and more staff available, it is returning to a regular 15-minute service.
Andy Heath, managing director at Merseyrail, said: “I’m thrilled that we are able to announce a return to a 15-minute service across most of our network. We have worked hard throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver the most reliable service possible to the people of the Liverpool City Region.

“Our customers have been incredibly patient during this time, and I thank them for that as we adapted to a very challenging set of circumstances because of the pandemic.”
The Southport line will run every 15 minutes throughout the service. All other lines (excluding Ellesmere Port) will run a 15-minute service from 7am to 7pm and a 30-minute service outside these hours.
The Ellesmere Port line will remain a 30-minute service every day. On weekdays there will be additional trains running between 7.15am and 8.30am for morning rush hour and 4.30pm and 5.30pm for the evening.
A 30-minute service will continue on Sundays on all lines. From May 16 to September 25, a 15-minute service will run on the Southport line on Sundays from 10.30am.
