The 11th generation E-class delivers a polished drive and features high tech interior
After 70 years and 11 generations, is this the final blast for the fossil-fuelled E-Class, asked The Daily Telegraph. The new range features the base petrol model, a diesel version, and the popular 300e plug-in hybrid with a 71-mile all-electric range, and which can do 0-62mph in 6.4secs. All cars are rear-wheel drive with nine-speed automatic transmission. A four-wheel drive diesel-electric PHEV will launch in September.

The new E-class is more like a smaller version of the range-topping Mercedes S-class than ever, delivering a polished, enjoyable drive, said Sunday Times Driving. With better aerodynamics for efficiency and to reduce emissions, it glides serenely at cruising speeds, with plenty of grip and precise steering. There are chrome-capped wraparound LED rear lights; and inside, the sumptuous cabin is full of high-end, glossy materials.
The spacious interior is packed with tech, notably the MBUX Superscreen – a central infotainment touchscreen and passenger display, which enables Zoom and video calls thanks to a high-definition dashboard camera, What Car? said. The tech extends to safety too, with options for an Active Brake Assist system, which looks out for hazards, and autonomous driving tech, which means the car can park and overtake by itself.
