Menace said he'd flash kids in Paisley street if they didn't give him a chip

A drunk dad who threatened to expose himself to two 12-year-old girls unless they gave him a chip has been jailed.

Daniel Carr approached the youngsters in Paisley’s Gauze Street and made the vile remarks.

Once cops had been alerted to the 32-year-old’s alarming behaviour on April 13, they traced him in St Mirren Brae where he tried to conceal a knife before giving them a mouthful of abuse.

Appearing from custody at Paisley Sheriff Court, the ashamed father pled guilty and was caged for 17 months.

Procurator fiscal depute Mark Nicol told the court that, around 9pm, the two girls were approached by Carr who stated he would show them his genitals if they didn’t give him a chip.

He continued: “The girls refused and the accused then left towards St Mirren Brae. Police were contacted and they arrived around 9.25pm and enquiries led them to the accused, who was standing near to Sialvi’s newsagents.

“As officers approached, they saw him walk towards a property and discard a knife on the steps there.

“Officers approached Carr and detained him for a search and the knife was recovered from the step.

“Carr was arrested and placed in a cell van where he began shouting, swearing and making threats towards officers stating, ‘Think you’re a big man, leave me out here and we’ll see what happens, I’ll take all three of you, I’ve been in trouble with the police loads of times. You’re a f*****g dafty and it’s my f*****g work knife’.

“The accused was cautioned and charged where he replied by putting up the middle finger and stated, ‘you just got punched about you fat b*****d’.

“He was then taken to Greenock police station and processed in the usual manner.”

Carr’s defence solicitor explained how his client is a father-of-two and had been working as a labourer.

On the day in question, the legal man said: “He finished work at 6pm and rather than go home to his family, he went to the pub and obviously had one too many.

“He is absolutely ashamed of the remark he made to the children and he is also embarrassed of the remarks he made to the police.

“He had been working for around six months at that time, it was a good job which was well paid and he’s paid a heavy price.

“He’s lost contact with his children for the last eight months, he’s lost his liberty and he feels pretty miserable.

“His partner works in school dinners and she works hard, as well as raising their two children, and he feels awful for leaving her in that position and having to care for the children on her own.”

Sheriff Brian Mohan stated: “His past hangs heavy with weapons and a High Court matter.”

Sentencing, he said: “You know what could have happened to you making inappropriate remarks.

“Your tendency towards violence is apparent on your record and you’ll realise custody is inevitable here.”

Sheriff Mohan jailed Carr for a total of 17 months, backdating this to his date of remand on April 14.
