MEN charity Christmas appeal to help tackle hunger in Greater Manchester passes £4,000

Fundraising for the Manchester Evening News' charity Christmas campaign has passed £4,000 - thanks to your generous donations.

We've teamed up with Blackley-based food bank Humans MCR to help make sure nobody goes hungry this Christmas in Greater Manchester. They're a special charity, who deliver all their food parcels and work with users to give them agency and choice over what they are eating.

Your donations will help them support the neediest families in our region into the new year, and give this exceptional local charity security to help as many people as they can this Christmas.

We're still asking you to help us support Humans MCR this Christmas by giving any donations - big or small - that you are able to. This money will be used to buy essential groceries, petrol, and important items including sanitary products and pet food, to help people in need in Greater Manchester.

This is a very special charity, borne out of co-founder Lewey Hellewell's personal experiences with food banks. He told the M.E.N how the most difficult part of his ordeal was often walking in the rain for miles to reach a food bank, before queuing outside and lugging heavy groceries home. It's why at Humans MCR, all groceries are delivered to users' doors in unmarked vans to maintain privacy.

Users are also given choice over the food they get delivered, depending on dietary and cultural preferences, as well as what cooking facilities they have available. Lewey's aim is provide a 'dignified' and respectful alternative to traditional food banks - and we've seen the difference this charity makes first-hand.

It's a challenging winter, and we know money is tight. If you are unable to give any donations, Humans MCR are looking for volunteer delivery drivers to help them drop off their Christmas hampers on December 23. These hampers are filled with everything a family needs for a traditional Christmas dinner, as well as gifts for children and treats for adults. If you are able to spare just a few hours of your time, it's a worthy cause. You can register to volunteer here.

Thank you for your generosity, and please, let's keep raising as much money as we can for those who really need it in our region.
