Multiple people have been wounded after a gunman reportedly opened fire at a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
The shooting took place near the entrance to the emergency room of Methodist North Hospital at roughly 12.47am local time.
Police confirmed at least eight people were targeted, reports ABC24.
The extent of the victims' injuries are not yet known.
A silver sedan had stopped at an intersection near the hospital grounds, according to WATN.
It was reportedly left with over 20 bullet holes in the driver's side.
Surrounding streets have been cordoned off and the hospital is believed to be on lockdown.
Police have not yet confirmed if any arrests have been made.
The incident comes with gun violence fresh on the minds of many Americans, after a massacre on May 24 in Uvalde, Texas.
Two teachers and 19 children were shot dead when Salvador Ramos targeted Robb Elementary School.
The teenager had shot his own grandmother at their Uvalde home before driving to the school to carry out the massacre.
And on May 14, 10 people were killed in an attack at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York.
Payton Gendron, a white supremacist, scrawled the n-word on his rifle before carrying out the massacre at Tops Friendly store.
US law makers responded to the recent mass shootings by voting to set a minimum age of 21 for buying semi-automatic weapons.
The United States House of Representatives vote was part of a wide-ranging gun control bill passed in June.
It proposes raising the minimum age for purchasing a semi-automatic rifle and bans selling ammunition magazines that have a capacity of over 15 rounds.
The vote was passed by 223-204, while the section dealing with the minimum age for semi-automatic weapons went through 228-199.
