Chelsea have been told where they stand in regards to signing Memphis Depay by the player himself.
With a deal opening up late on deadline day for the player, Chelsea, who had already made their interest known throughout the window, attempted an 11th hour swoop to sign the player and add him to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a second attacking signing from Barcelona - though Manchester United have also been linked with a move for their former player.
With Barcelona willing to let him go on a free transfer due to their registration issues and financial turmoil, if Chelsea had made a move for the player then conversations would have started in order to terminate his contract. Any thought of that happened has now been put to bed though.
