A thanksgiving service will take place this Sunday for a popular former Airdrie minister who served the town for more than three decades.
Rev George McCabe, who was the minister at Airdrie High Church between the 1960s and 1990s, sadly passed away in 2020 during the tightest period of lockdown restrictions.
Friends from his former congregation and the local community will remember him with the special service, taking place at the church on North Bridge Street at 3pm on Sunday, April 10.
Rev McCabe served as chaplain at Airdrie Academy and was also a stalwart member of Airdrie Burns Club – with friends describing him as “a very familiar and well-loved face” in the town.
He has a special place in the annals of the High Kirk, as one of only 10 ministers in its almost 185-year history and one of the longest-serving.
Sunday’s service will be led by High Church minister Rev Ian McDonald, and will be followed by refreshments.
