Meme Trader Roaring Kitty Takes A Bite Out Of This New Stock; Chewy, GameStop Retreat

Meme trader Keith Gill, known online as Roaring Kitty, has a new major holding - Chewy stock. Shares of the pet products delivery company reversed lower Monday after a Securities and Exchange Commission filing revealed Gill's stake. Other meme stocks fell Monday.

An SEC filing dated June 24 shows that Gill owns 9,001,000 shares of Chewy stock, representing a 6.6% stake in the company. The holdings are worth $245.18 million based on Friday's closing price of 27.24.

The holding makes Gill Chewy's third-largest shareholder, trailing only investment firms Baillie Gifford and Vanguard, according to FactSet data.

Gill provided a hint into his latest holding on June 27, when he posted a photo on X of a cartoon dog. Chewy stock soared as much as 34% last Thursday on the post before closing down a fraction. CHWY stock retreated 6.2% on Friday.

Meanwhile, Petco stock leapt 13.2% Friday in strong volume, as some Roaring Kitty followers may have misinterpreted the post.

Chewy Stock

Chewy stock reversed to a 6.6% decline Monday after jumping 5.7% in early trade. Shares soared more than 20% premarket on Gill's SEC filing. CHWY stock climbed 7.6% this year.

Shares, near lows in a three and a half year decline, are not on the radar for growth stock investors.

Other meme stocks generally retreated Monday.

GameStop, Gill's favorite meme stock, carved 5.4% lower Monday. AMC Entertainment rose 1.2% Monday after sliding more than 2% after the opening bell.

BlackBerry retreated 2.4% Monday.
