Melba woman breaches peace outside courthouse

A 42-year-old Melba woman has faced the ACT Magistrates Court after a confrontation outside the courthouse on Thursday.

She was charged with a breach of the peace and attempting to obstruct/hinder/resist a territory public official.

The arrest came after a number of what people formed what police described as an "issues-motivated group" carrying flags and a loudspeaker, gathered outside the courthouse on Thursday morning.

It is uncertain whether this was the same group as that which has been assembling to protest in small numbers outside the Governor-General's residence at Yarralumla, on the lawns of Parliament House and outside other premises such as the Australian Tax Office.

Earlier this week police were required to remove furniture which groups had brought in and set up on the lawns.

Protest activity is expected to continue in Canberra from these small groups, all with indeterminate and varied issues, through until the May election.
