There were surprises from the outset on the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest, what with Kate Middleton's piano playing opening the show in Liverpool. But Mel Giedroyc also caused a frenzy later in the final as she paid homage to an iconic Eurovision moment.
Mel, who is sharing the commentary duties with Graham Norton, appeared behind glam presenter Hannah Waddingham performing a saucy butter churning spectacle in costume. Mel gazed suggestively into the camera as she got to work.
The official BBC Eurovision Twitter shouted excitedly: "MEL GIEDROYC AS A BUTTER CHURNING POLISH MILKMAID! GIVE HER AN NTA RIGHT NOW!" And @bbceurovision added: "Just when I thought I couldn't love Mel any more."

After Ted Lasso star Hannah was hailed a crush for her presenting of the semi-finals, viewers shared their love for Mel on Twitter. @SarahSallyRobe1 praised: "All power to you Mel, I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Thank you." And @SzaharaRose said: "I didn't hear a word being spoken...I was transfixed!!"
@sophiegeppert wrote: "Never mind NTA give Mel an Oscar." @JonathanEx said: "@BAFTA TV moment of the year." And @GreenJimll messaged: "OK, that's me lost for the rest of the show. If you want me, I'll be watching that clip on repeat loop."
Scott Bryan said: "Mel Giedroyc churching whilst Graham Norton losing it. ABSOLUTEY INCREDIBLE." And Andrew Digit tweeted: "Mel has never looked better! I was looking at her more than Hannah (big crush) I can't think why?"
@FionaSciolti commented: "Was thinking about this act and then up pops Mel giving it some proper churning." And @Ana_1995_1 said: "Poland 2014 but from Wish." Poland's entry in 2014 My Slowanie -We are Slavic by Donatan and Cleo saw models churning butter on stage.
But not everyone was so impressed. @itsbr0gan said: "I feel sick why on earth is Mel doing that f*** off." And @Kerensa_74 tweeted: "Very ‘Carry on’."
