Mel Gibson poses beside Braveheart painting with artist ahead of Glasgow black tie dinner

A stunning signed painting of Mel Gibson is to be auctioned off tonight at a swanky black tie dinner in Glasgow.

Artist Glen Folan spent 100 hours creating the masterpiece for the Braveheart actor to sign ahead of the An Experience With Mel Gibson at the Hilton Doubletree.

The painter, 35, said the Hollywood star was 'down to earth' after the pair met on Saturday afternoon.

He told the Record: "Out of all the stars I've met, Mel Gibson is definitely up there as one of the nicest. He's so down to earth, just a really genuine bloke."

Glen is set to finish another impressive portrait of the star off during the £100-per-head event tonight.

He declined to confirm how much his works are worth at auction but said it runs into thousands.

Glen previously met the A-List actor last November during another event with the company in London.

The artist has worked alongside An Experience With founder Stephen Oxley to create portraits for Hollywood stars including Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Today Mel told how he hasn't been back to Scotland in almost three decades since the Braveheart premiere was held at Stirling Castle in 1995.

Asked by organisers how it felt to be back in Scotland, Gibson replied: "Yeah, good. It's been 28 years.

"I haven't been here in 28 years since I was 38 or 39."

Tickets to the formal event will set fans back a minimum of £100 to the dinner, and will cost an extra £300 to get a photo alongside the star.

Organisers have promised he will share untold stories as part of the all-access show.
