The Spice Girls are back. Well, at least judging from Mel B’s recent Instagram post, it certainly looks like a reunion is in the works.

Next to a compilation video of Spice Girl clips posted to her Instagram, Mel B (aka Scary Spice) said: “To ALL our fans get ready for #spiceworld25 yippppeeee its here at long last!!!! Boom #girlpower #foryou #friendshipneverends #spicetour2023.”

The video compiles clips of the band back from the Spice World era (in the late Nineties) with details about a forthcoming album release written over the clip as text. The video had been posted to celebrate the Spice Girls’ new 25th-anniversary edition of their 1997 album Spice World, which is being released on November 4. The album will reportedly bring together old favourite tracks, with unreleased bonus tracks and live recordings from the archives.

In a statement about the album, the Spice Girls said: ”The ‘Spiceworld’ era was such a fun time for us. We’d just had a number one album with Spice, we were travelling all over the world and meeting our amazing fans, we released our second album AND we had our very own movie! Who would’ve thought it? It’s crazy to think that 25 years have passed.”

But there’s a key detail that’s been added to the post: In Instagram font, the words “We are back yippppeeee,” have been written across the top of the video. Then, next to the video Mel B also added the hashtag #spicetour2023.

American gymnastic Olympic Gold Medalist Nastia Liukin commented, “Omgggg. WUT.” on the Instagram post while fashion photographers The Morelli Brothers (Luca and Alessandro Morelli) commented a black love heart.

Although the rest of the band hasn’t yet confirmed the tour, some fans are already getting excited: “Spice girls and Renaissance tours in 2023? Just take all my money now. All of it,” Tweeted one enthusiast.

Four members of the band - Mel B, Emma Bunton, Melanie C and Geri Halliwell (Victoria Beckham bowed out) – went on a 13-date UK and Ireland stadium tour in 2019. It was a major success, reportedly making as much as £60 million in profit.

In June 2020, a new 2021 tour (with the same four members) was reported as being in the works. However, it hasn’t, yet, come to fruition.

Members of the band have been keeping busy, with Beckham, for example, focusing on her fashion brand. This month, Melanie C has brought out a memoir, Who I Am, while Bunton is going on a solo UK tour in December, stopping in Manchester, Brighton, York, Birmingham and London. So whether fans will get to enjoy a tour next year is still yet to be seen.

The Spice Girls remains one of the best-selling pop bands of all time. They had three chart-topping albums, nine UK number one singles and have sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
