Newcastle United part owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi insists the club will 'come back stronger' following a 'disappointing' defeat at relegation rivals Everton. The Magpies slumped to a second straight defeat after Alex Iwobi struck in injury-time to earn the 10-man hosts a vital victory.
Newcastle controlled the majority of the first-half, but struggled to dominate proceedings in the second-half until Allan was controversially dismissed following a VAR review for a foul on Allan Saint-Maximin. The visitors pushed for a late winner, only to succumb to defeat after Iwobi slotted past Martin Dubravka.
Eddie Howe's side remain nine points clear of the relegation zone, and face another away trip following the international break with a trip to Tottenham on April 3. The manner of the late defeat was deflating for the Magpies, coming just four days after a late Kai Havertz goal denied them a deserved point at Stamford Bridge.
Ghodoussi accepts it was a frustrating evening for the club, but is confident the head coach will be able to 'take stock' and 're-focus' the side during the lengthy break. He posted: "Disappointing result tonight. But we’ll take stock, re-focus and come back stronger."
One Newcastle fan replied: "Break come[s] at right time looks like a few of the lads are starting to look tired which is understandable, they have put everything into it since Christmas." Another supporter posted: "We are in a good position to take a hit like that thankfully.....much needed break, regroup, nine-point gap and plenty of winnable points to be had."
