The Duchess of Sussex's new Spotify podcast Archetypes, which was launched last month, has been paused for the duration of the mourning period for the Queen, it has been revealed. It follows Buckingham Palace's announcement that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had died "peacefully" aged 96 at Balmoral.
A period of national mourning is now in place and will continue until the end of the day of the State Funeral on Monday, September 19. Meanwhile, a period of 'royal mourning', observed by members of the Royal Family, Royal Household staff and representatives of the Royal Household on official duties, together with troops committed to ceremonial duties, will continue until seven days after the the Queen's funeral.
In the wake of Queen Elizabeth II's death, new episodes of Meghan's podcast Archetypes are on hold and will not be released. A message currently showing on the podcast’s Spotify page reads: “New episodes of Archetypes will be paused during the official mourning period for Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II.”
Since its launch on August 23, three episodes of the audio series have been released featuring conversations between Meghan and veteran tennis player Serena Williams, pop star Mariah Carey and actress and producer Mindy Kaling. The podcast was launched with the aim of investigating “labels that try to hold women back” as Meghan speaks with historians, experts and women who have experienced being typecast.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a deal with Spotify to host and produce podcasts in late 2020. It was reported to be worth an estimated $25million (£18m).
It comes as Harry paid an emotional tribute to his late grandmother, saying he was "forever grateful" for all their "first meetings". The 37-year-old thanked the Queen for her “sound advice”, “infectious smile” and "commitment to service".
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined the new Prince and Princess of Wales at Windsor Castle on Saturday, where they met members of the public who had come to lay flowers and pay their respects.
