Meghan Markle to release long-awaited Spotify podcast this summer

The Duchess of Sussex will launch her Spotify podcast series this summer, an Archewell spokesperson confirmed. In a statement to HuffPost they said it would release in the summer, but did not give an exact date.

It is unknown whether or not Prince Harry will appear in the podcast. Meghan and Harry have not published any new material since their 2020 Holiday Special, featuring James Corden and Sir Elton John.

The spokesperson confirmed that Meghan and Harry are involved in ongoing discussions over their 'misinformation' concerns on Spotify which they first brought up last April. In late 2020, the couple signed a deal to host and produce podcasts with the streaming giant for an estimated £18 million, reports The Daily Star.

The new show will come from Archewell Audio, part of the couple’s Archewell Foundation, and comes following months of speculation over their deal with the global audio streaming platform. Speaking in January this year, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they had been “expressing concerns” to Spotify about Covid-19 misinformation but stated they would continue to work with the platform.

The statement from Meghan and Harry came after a number of musicians quit the platform over Joe Rogan’s comments on his podcast. A spokesperson for the couple said: ““Hundreds of millions of people are affected by the serious harms of rampant mis- and disinformation every day.

“Last April, our co-founders began expressing concerns to our partners at Spotify about the all too real consequences of Covid-19 misinformation on its platform. We have continued to express our concerns to Spotify to ensure changes to its platform are made to help address this public health crisis.

“We look to Spotify to meet this moment and are committed to continuing our work together as it does.”

Archewell has been contacted for comment.
