An expert has branded Meghan Markle's decision to stay home during King Charles' Coronation next month as a 'brilliant strategy'.
While her husband, Prince Harry, has confirmed that he will attend, the Duchess of Sussex is set to stay at home in California while the Coronation takes place. Meghan will be with her two children, celebrating her son Archie's fourth birthday as both events fall on May 6.
As reported by the Mirror, Archie's birthday "played a factor" in Meghan's decision to remain in America according to the Sussexes' biographer Omid Scobie.
And Royal watcher Kristen Meinzer told Insider that it makes sense for one parent to celebrate Archie's birthday while the other fulfils his royal obligation.
She told the publication: "I think the decision for Harry to go, and for Meghan to stay home with the children on Archie's birthday is a brilliant way to split the difference.
"As I've said in the past, the primary benefit of attending is the optics; of looking as though they're continuing to do their best on their end — even if the royal family isn't always doing their best on their end.
"But I've always maintained that the Sussexes must also do what's best for their own little family and their own mental health. It sounds like that's what they'll be doing."
An insider told The Mirror the King is "delighted" at Harry's choice to travel to the UK for the Coronation.
The Coronation will be Harry's first appearance in a public setting with Charles, Camilla, William and Kate since he released his tell-all memoir, Spare, earlier this year.
The insider said: "The King has previously spoken of loving both his sons and that remains the case. Harry would have deeply regretted not attending the ceremony.
"Archie’s birthday has provided the perfect excuse for Meghan to stay behind and, with all things considered, it’s probably the right thing to do."
A source claimed that despite Harry's legal action against the Home Office over the decision to strip him of taxpayer-funded protection, royal officers would be responsible for his safety as he was attending a State occasion with the Royal Family.
