Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son Archie made his world debut at Windsor Castle at just two days old. It was back in 2019 his introduction to the world was a sharp contrast to that of his cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Princess Kate stuck with royal tradition and posed on the hospital steps outside the Lindo Wing at St Mary's before heading home with her newborn, but Meghan didn't and instead opted for a small photocall a few days later.
The hospital photo steps is something royal fans always look forward to, with Princess Anne, Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson all posing.
Prince Harry and Meghan's decision received a mix reaction at the time, with some fans disappointed they didn't get to be part of the sweet moment while others understood their desire for privacy.
And now, during their Netflix show Harry & Meghan, they've finally explained why - and it turns out it might have actually been more of a logistics issue than a snub.
She said there was a lot of pressure in capturing a photo of Archie on the hospital steps, which made her worried.
She added: "There was already the pressure of the picture with Archie on the steps.
"Are they going to do that or are they not? But I had been really worried going into that labour because I am older and I didn't know if I would have to have a C-section."
She explained: "I had a very long-standing relationship with my doctor and that is who I trusted with my pregnancy.
"And they said, 'Right, but she is at Portland Hospital and the steps are at this hospital (the Lindo Wing)'. And I said, 'OK, we could do a photocall in front of Portland Hospital'.
"They said it is impossible. We couldn't barricade the streets off and it would create a threat for the emergency room entrance because that is where you would have to do this picture."
Prince Harry's cousins, Princesses and Eugenie were born at Portland and their parents - Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson - posed for the photos. However that was 30 years ago, so it's possible that circumstances have changed.
Instead, Meghan said she and the palace came up with an alternative plan and asked instead if she could give photographers more time at Windsor Castle.
She added: "It was like, 'Yes, yes, oh great, yes.' At no point did someone go, 'Absolutely not'."
Meghan's revelations about Archie's birth come after he and younger sister Lilibet stole the show in the bombshell Netflix series.
Fans were unsure if they would get a glimpse of the youngsters but were treated to a few adorable scenes of the children across the six-part documentary.
There are countless home videos of Archie and Lili out on walks with their proud parents, as well as a gorgeous snap of Archie on his first birthday with proud grandma Doria Ragland.
Other snaps show Harry pushing his children in prams and a fun video of him and Archie rolling around their home on a suitcase.
Speaking about his children, Harry tells the camera: "As a dad, and as parents, I think consent is a really key piece to this. That if you have children, it should be your consent to what you share."
Meghan later adds: "We've been really conscious of protecting our kids as best we can and also understanding the role they play in this really historical family."
