Meghan Markle "completely" overshadowed the anniversary of Princess Diana's death by making more digs at the Royal Family in a recent interview, a royal expert has said.
The timing of the Duchess of Sussex's interview with The Cut, where she gave further glimpses into her time as a senior royal, has been questioned by Duncan Larcombe, author of Prince Harry: The Inside Story.
The article, which made headlines across the world, was released the day before the 25th anniversary of the Princess of Wales' death.
Duncan told OK!: “When you talk about the timing of this, put together with the hornet’s nest that she seems to have kicked again, it’s not too cynical to suggest there is a bigger agenda at play here.
“It’s hard to interpret what Meghan’s playing at because she has managed to get her image on the front of all of the newspapers on the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death."
The author went on: “It wasn’t a surprise that it was the 25th anniversary, so it is a surprise that Meghan will suddenly come out with this onslaught and completely overshadow the anniversary which has managed to pass through without any official commemoration.”
During the interview, When asked if she thinks there is room for forgiveness between her and her royal in-laws, as well as with her own family, Meghan, 41, expressed how important it was to be able to move on.
“I think forgiveness is really important. It takes a lot more energy to not forgive,” she said.
“But it takes a lot of effort to forgive. I’ve really made an active effort, especially knowing that I can say anything."
Discussing leaving the UK, Meghan told the magazine the couple was willing to go to another Commonwealth country and work on behalf of the Royal Family but wanted to make their own money.
“Then maybe all the noise would stop,” Meghan said of their reasoning.
“Anything to just … because just by existing, we were upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy.
”So we go, ‘Okay, fine, let’s get out of here. Happy to,’ ” she then said, raising her hands in a sign of mock defeat.
The suits actress went on to argue that what they were asking for wasn’t “reinventing the wheel”.
She claimed there were a handful of other royals who had the very arrangement they wanted.
Meghan gave her first public speech in the UK since stepping down as a working royal, during the pair's trip back.
